Peter James Johnson  was born on 12 November 1928. He married his wife Shirley in 1963 and thus the Downstream kennel of Flatcoated Retrievers was formed, a passion they both shared throught Peter's Life. Peter had two children with Shirley Rebecca (Becky) and Timothy.

Peter was a Gamekeeper all his life until his retirement in 1996. He was FCRS Field Trial Secretary from 1985 to 2002, Secretary of Utility Gundog Society - Eastern Counties Branch from 1978 to 1988 and thereafter became their Chairman until stepping down in 2006. He was a dual panel A judge for Retrievers and awarded CCs 17 times. 

He was a well respected international judge, gundog trainer and breeder and will be greatly missed by the gundog world.
